Catherine Ashcraft, PhD, Senior Research Scientist, NCWIT. Her research and teaching has focused on a number of issues related to gender, race, and class in a variety of educational and organizational contexts. As a research scientist for NCWIT, she conducts research into effective practices for increasing women's participation in information technology careers. She also consults with the Workforce Alliance, identifying and disseminating effective practices and developing evaluation tools to support implementation of these practices. Catherine served as a professor of multicultural education at Western Washington University. Her most recent publications have appeared in Teachers College Record, Anthropology & Education, and Youth & Society. She has also worked as a middle/secondary public school teacher and as the Community Education Director for a battered women's shelter where she identified best practices and implemented programs to address a variety of gender inequities, including workplace and dating violence. Catherine Ashcraft obtained her M.A. in Communication and her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Colorado.


Julie Byrd,
Instructor at Ivy Tech Community College, enjoys sharing her experience and expertise in information technology with her students. Julie's technology experience consists of seventeen years in the information technology field.  From computer hardware technician to Information Systems Director, Julie has worked various technology positions while raising a family and volunteering in a variety of community activities. She was named Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award from Ivy Tech 2004-2005 and received the Outstanding Alumni Award in 1999. Currently, Julie serves on the United Way Board and Rotary Board. She is also a volunteer for Mental Health Association and Salvation Army and for Logan’s Landing (Downtown Association). Julie Byrd graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.


LTC Carla Campbell
is currently the Deputy CIO (Chief Information Officer) at the US Army Signal Center at Ft. Gordon, GA.  As Deputy CIO, LTC Campbell provides strategic guidance to the Commanding General, US Army Signal Center and ensures the effective management and acquisition of information systems resources, facilitates the implementation of an integrated information architecture and establishes IT policies to support effective information management and information assurance.She most recently served as the DOIM (Director of Information Management) at the Army War College in Carlisle, PA, and as the Plans and Operations Officer for the DOIM at West Point, NY.  She has held a variety of IT positions and has served three overseas assignments and deployed as a Network Manager with the 22nd Signal Brigade for Operation Joint Endeavor (Bosnia). LTC Campbell holds Master of Science degrees from Ball State University (2000) and Eastern Kentucky University (1983).  She also earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Berea College (1981).  Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the NATO Medal.


Patty Crawford, Enterprise Architect, BP Digital and Communication Technology,
joined BP in 2004.   As an Enterprise Architect, Patty leads the ERP Infrastructure strategy work, which focuses on developing a set of infrastructure standards across the global Enterprise ERP solutions.   In addition to the ERP strategy work, Patty is also an active member of team working on the formation of a new BP organization focused on Enterprise Systems and is a member of the planning team for migrating ERP systems to new data centers.   Patty commenced her career at Accenture from Analyst (1994) up to Experienced Manager (2003) where she worked in knowledge management and technical architecture across many different industries.   Patty completed her undergraduate and graduate work in Muncie, IN at Ball State University.   She earned an undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) with a minor in Spanish.   Patty then earned a Masters of Science degree from the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS).

Doreen Gridley, is a partner at Ice Miller. Her primary area of practice is intellectual property, including prosecution, transactions, and licensing. In her practice she concentrates in the areas of life sciences, biotechnology, computer, internet and e-commerce law, contract law, and privacy law.

 



Rebecca Hendrick was certified in Digital Forensics by a computer forensic industry pioneer and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in CyberForensics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Her consulting firm, Mirror Consulting, Inc., specializes in Electronic Discovery and Digital Forensic matters. Ms. Hendricks has been appointed to the Purdue University’s Advisory Committee for CyberForensics and Indiana University’s New Media Advisory Committee for Informatics. Ms. Hendricks’ significant project accomplishments include numerous enterprise-wide application development projects, the build out or reconstruction of seven technology centers, the installation of five PBX systems, the design of two national wide area networks and multiple local area network designs. Her career’s significant operational accomplishments include the development of various IT functional teams, 24x7 computer operations with staffing on three shifts, establishing standard operating procedures for all facets of microcomputer and minicomputer operations. Ms. Hendricks’ experiences include the development and staffing of help desk, network, litigation support,training,
application development, database management and eBusiness teams.



Deborah Howell, Senior Systems Security Communications Manager, has worked at Ball State University (BSU) since 1999. Her current responsibilities include security awareness, data protection, data encryption, business continuity and disaster recovery for Information Technology at BSU.  Previously she was the webmaster for University Computing Services and Security Web sites, along with other responsibilities. Before coming to BSU she worked for Ball Corporation and Saint-Gobain as an EDI Administrator/Coordinator.  One of her accomplishments was to be part of an Anheuser-Busch (AB) select committee for product cost containment.  The charter of the committee was to design and implement a real time data repository of product packaging information used by AB to determine cost exposure of changes related to specific brands or packaging of those brands.  The committee met bi-weekly for seven months and upon implementation AB was able to identify the total cost associated with any changes to their product line.  In addition AB was able to shift supplier packaging material to manufacturing facilities based on customer demand.  The program was a huge success and proved to save several million dollars per annum for AB. Deb has a Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State, and has begun work on a MBA. During the summer, she donates time to Motivate Our Minds (MOM) to help educate children on computer skills.  She has served on the IVTC Computer Science Advisory Board and is a member of InfraGuard, which is a collaborative effort between the FBI and the private sector to share information resources in an effort to better protect the nation’s critical infrastructure.  She hopes to have her GSEC certification by this summer. 


Paul Maranville, Vice President, joined Carlyle Group in 2004 and he is the practice leader for the Professional Services/Strategy Practice.  He is responsible for client development and search execution.  Paul's search work focuses on senior level searches for executives and functional heads within Corporate Strategy and Marketing functions as well as leadership roles within key boutique management consulting firms.In 2001, Paul founded The Cole Group LLC, a strategic consulting firm for the recruiting market, delivering recruitment strategy, process development and team structure optimization. His prior search experience includes serving as the Americas Director of Technology Recruiting for Deloitte Consulting where he was responsible for developing recruiting strategies and processes and managing global teams. Paul's tactical background was developed in previous roles as an executive recruiter for MCI/Systemhouse. Paul Maranville received a MBA from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business and a BA in Economics from the University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign.


Karen E. Mangia is Senior Manager of partner experience at Cisco Systems in Indianapolis. As senior manager, Karen leads the Strategy, Planning, and Portfolio Management team at Cisco, which focuses on improving Cisco's partner satisfaction and loyalty.
Karen commenced her career at AT&T as a Customer Project Manager and culminated her career with AT&T as a Client Business Manager. She was featured in the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2002 and was honored with the Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award from Ball State University in 2007. Recently, Karen was featured in the Indianapolis Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 list in 2008. Currently, she is a member of the CICS and Miller College of Business Alumni Boards. Karen also founded and Chairs the Student/Alumni Mentor Program which connects alums and students for shared learning purposes.  Karen E. Mangia completed her undergraduate and graduate work in Muncie, IN at Ball State University. She earned an undergraduate degree in International Business and Broadcast Telecommunications with a minor in Spanish.  Karen then earned a Masters of Science degree from the Center for Information and Communication Sciences (CICS).


Dlynn L. Melo, MS, RN-BC is the Director of Clinical Informatics, in Information Systems at Cardinal Health System and a booster of healthcare information technology. She has 31 years of experience in acute care and twelve years of it in health care information technology at Ball Memorial Hospital with Cardinal Health System, Muncie, IN. Dlynn's practical vision for transforming healthcare through technology stems from an intimate knowledge of the stakeholders throughout the enterprise, as well as hands-on experience with patient care. She is board certified in Nursing Informatics through ANCC. She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society for Nursing, HIMSS and InSight.Her most recent publication, co-authored with Dr. Kay Hodson-Carlton, A Collaborative Model to Ensure Graduating Nurses Are Ready to Use Electronic Health Records is published in CIN Journal. In January 2008, she received a Finalist award for Distinguished Use of Technology in Health Care or Life Sciences from Women & Hi Tech. Dlynn L. Melo completed a BS degree in nursing and a master's degree in Information and Communication Science at Ball State University.



Linda Murray is a RN who currently works in the Information Systems department at her local hospital.  Over her 32 years as a nurse she has worked as a staff nurse, nurse manager, nursing supervisor, and for the last 13 years as a certified informatics nurse.  In the medical field Linda has experienced and implemented many healthcare related information technology changes.  Most recently she has helped implement a hospital wide HIS (Health Information System), electronic medical record, nursing electronic documentation, PACS (picture archiving and communication system), and has learned a enough programming skills to write reports that obtain data from the HIS.



Lisa Oehl is the Associate Account Manager of the Indiana Commercial team in Carmel, IN. Lisa’s responsibilities include: the explanation and demonstration of Cisco solutions, communicating the value of Cisco to partners and customers, staying abreast of current and innovative technologies, coaching partners, and ultimately expanding Cisco business throughout Indiana.While attending Ball State University, Lisa was actively involved with a number of student organizations. As a member of the sorority Alpha Omicron Pi, she held positions of Sisterhood Chair, Homecoming Chair, and served as a Panhellenic Counselor. Lisa worked as a Campus Tour Guide for 3 years and a Radio Disc Jockey for 2 years. Lisa was also a member of Rho Lambda (honorary academic sorority) and Pi Sigma Epsilon (business fraternity). Lisa Oehl graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications, Sales & Promotions, with a minor in Spanish.

Robin Smith is Leader, Global Diversity and Inclusion, Nortel.  Robin is accountable for design and implementation of a global diversity strategy that helps maximize the contributions of Nortel employees in over 75 countries. At Nortel, she has occupied multiple roles of increasing scope and responsibility across Financial Planning, Business Analysis, External Research and Human Resources. Robin is an active member of the Conference Board Diversity Council, the Society for Human Resource Management and is a founding member of the Diversity Consortium.  She has been an invited presenter at Diversity Conferences and Women’s Events in Canada and the US. She is a member of the United Way Women’s Leadership Society and has served on the United Way Funding Allocation Panel for several years.  Robin L. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Sociology from Eastern Illinois University.  She earned her Master of Arts in Business and Human Relations from Amber University.  She holds her Professional Trainer certification from the American Society of Training and Development.



Andrea Weston joined Ontario Systems, LLC, after graduating from Ball State University with a degree in Legal Administration in 1991.  Ontario Systems, located in Muncie, IN, is a technology leader in collection software solutions, with nearly 450 employees and more than 500 client offices in collections, healthcare and the financial services markets.  Andrea started her career at Ontario Systems as a Systems Consultant implementing, training and supporting software.  She later joined the Technical Communications team providing technical documentation to internal and external customers.  Currently, Andrea is a Human Resources Supervisor with a focus on recruiting and compensation.
